Hello! Today we’re going to learn how to write effective character descriptions for science fiction stories.
By the end of this lesson, you’ll understand how to use adjectives, adjectival phrases, and prepositional phrases to describe nouns.

PART 1: THE FOUR WAYS TO DESCRIBE CHARACTERS
In stories, characters (including aliens) are usually described in four main ways:
By what they look like
By what they do or how they behave
By what they say and how they say it
By how they think or feel

PART 2: UNDERSTANDING ADJECTIVES
Adjectives are single words that describe nouns (people, places, or things).

Demonstration:
“The robot was massive.”
In this sentence, “massive” is a single adjective describing the robot.

The planet was orange.

A phrase can act as an adjective if it describes a noun:
The planet was in a faraway galaxy.
