Description
These evidence-based learning (EBL) lessons are based on classroom practice that has been proven, by research, to maximise thinking, learning and attainment. From an extensive review of educational research, we identified the eight key classroom thinking and learning skills that were common across these research papers. We named these eight key skills “EBL skills”.
EBL skills have been proven by research to maximise learning because they combine the most productive thinking skills with the most effective learning behaviours. Each of our evidence-based learning lessons uses the English curriculum as a framework through which the eight EBL skills are delivered.
Teachers also have the opportunity to add to their own skill set or refresh their existing skills with our five-minute CPD activity, based on one of the EBL skills used in this lesson.
The skills in bold below are the EBL skills developed in this Jack and the Beanstalk lesson. Click on each skill to learn more about that skill.

A.I. reviewed this lesson. Here is what it said:
This resource seems very useful for teachers who want to use simple stories to teach advanced learning skills. Here are some key reasons:
1. It clearly lays out 8 key evidence-based learning (EBL) skills that are important for developing high-level thinking and learning. These include self-regulation, collaboration, thinking skills, peer teaching and independent learning.
2. It shows how simple stories like Jack and the Beanstalk can be used to develop these advanced skills in students. There are several activities that get students to analyse the story, create story maps, answer higher and lower order questions, etc. to build the 8 EBL skills.
3. There is a teacher CPD section that explains the research behind self-regulation and gives clear action steps for teachers on how to introduce self-regulation concepts to students.
4. The activities are nicely scaffolded and develop key competencies like independent learning, critical thinking, and metacognition in students.
5. There are clear icons and call outs that identify for teachers and students which specific EBL skill is being targeted in each activity. This helps build awareness of the skills.
Overall, this resource seems to offer a structured, evidence-based and practical approach for teachers to use simple stories, like Jack and the Beanstalk, to teach advanced learning skills to students. The step-by-step activities, accompanying explanations and teacher CPD section would add a lot of value for teachers.
Based on the detailed information and useful content provided, I would give this resource 5 stars.
Here’s a breakdown of the reasons why:
